The Clyde Coast League returned to the Waterfront on Monday 5 October, with eight teams taking to the ice for an evening of competitive curling, friendly rivalry and a welcome chance to catch up.
A special welcome went to Gourock, who joined the competition at the last minute. Skipped by Rory Marshall, they opened their campaign against Ardgowan 3, completing an eight-team line-up alongside three Ardgowan teams, two from Largs Thistle, Port Glasgow and Dumbarton.
The opening fixtures saw Largs Thistle 1 face Dumbarton, Ardgowan 1 take on Largs Thistle 2, and Port Glasgow meet Ardgowan 2. With all four matches under way, it was good to see the Waterfront busy and players from across the clubs enjoying their return to league action.
Originally initiated by Ardgowan Curling Club, the Clyde Coast League was created to bring clubs together through a competition that combines a determined approach on the ice with a friendly atmosphere. Over the past few years, that combination has proved successful, and the league continues to go from strength to strength.
There is plenty of incentive to play well, but the enjoyment of meeting other clubs remains an important part of the evening. Opening night captured that spirit, with concentration over the stones and smiles between shots.
This season, each team will play every other team once, giving every rink seven matches and producing 28 fixtures overall. Games take place at 8.00pm on the scheduled Monday evenings.
With the first round complete, the season is under way and there is plenty of curling to look forward to. Best wishes to all eight teams for an enjoyable and competitive Clyde Coast campaign!
