Give Wheelchair Curling a Try – Free Sessions in Stirling This November

Fancy trying a sport where accuracy, tactics and teamwork come together on the ice? Scottish Curling, in partnership with British Curling, is inviting wheelchair users to try wheelchair curling at the National Curling Academy, The Peak, Stirling, on Tuesday 17 November 2026.

There is no need to have curled before. These free introductory sessions offer an opportunity to discover a Winter Paralympic sport and experience the challenge of delivering a stone towards the target.

A different way to enjoy the game

Wheelchair curling uses the same ice and granite stones as traditional curling, but stones are delivered from a stationary wheelchair, often using a delivery stick. There is no sweeping, so judging direction and distance is central to every shot.

It combines careful placement with tactical decisions: whether to draw towards the centre, protect a well-positioned stone or remove an opponent’s stone. For newcomers, the first challenge is simply getting a feel for the ice and enjoying those first deliveries.
