Scotland’s curlers take centre stage as the Grand Slam begins

There is plenty of Scottish interest as the Grand Slam of Curling opens its 2026–27 season in Victoria, British Columbia, this week.

The CO-OP Invitational runs from 13–18 October, bringing together 16 men’s teams and 16 women’s teams at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre. For curling enthusiasts around Inverclyde, it is an opportunity to watch some of the sport’s finest players competing on the international stage.

The Grand Slam is a series of major international curling events featuring leading teams from around the world. With strong opposition throughout the draw, even the opening matches can produce the kind of tactical battles and precision shot-making normally associated with championship finals.

Four Scottish teams to follow

Scotland’s men are represented in Victoria by Team Hardie, Team Mouat, Team Waddell and Team Carson. Carson’s young rink earned its place through the Euro Super Series qualifying event.

There are fresh line-ups to watch this season. Grant Hardie now skips the team featuring Ross Whyte, Craig Waddell and Euan Kyle, while Robin Brydone has joined Bruce Mouat, Bobby Lammie and Hammy McMillan Jr.

Hardie and Mouat were previously teammates during a remarkably successful period that included world titles, Olympic silver medals and repeated Grand Slam victories. Their separate campaigns add another intriguing dimension to this season’s competition.

Scotland’s strength extends beyond this week’s field. The ranking lists checked ahead of the event place five Scottish men’s teams—Hardie, Mouat, Waddell, Carson and Bryce—inside the world’s top 30, alongside Team Henderson in the women’s top 30. Six Scottish teams across the two rankings is something for our curling community to celebrate.
